This step in my final was centered around Grand Valley State University's 2014 Annual Report. When reviewing the infographics for the 2014 Financial Stewardship Report (found on pages xx and xxi) I was surprised at the numbers reported for overall private donations (which can be seen below). The most shocking part of the reported donations to me was the spike in 2008. It isn't unknown that we had a recession with the housing market crash lasting from late 2007 to early 2009, which just so happens to be the same time the private giving to GVSU peaked. Weird isn't it? My only thought is that those fortunate enough to remain unaffected by the recession used donations like these to try and stimulate the economy, but honestly, I am really not sure.
