Above you can view step #5 on my CAP 105 final. For this step we were asked to recreate three popular internet memes: Bad Luck Brian, First World Problems, and Haters Gonna Hate. The first two I took in my dorm room and the third was taken outside on campus. This step taught me I am not good at imitating things and that without the original character memes just aren't the same!

This step in my final was centered around Grand Valley State University's 2014 Annual Report. When reviewing the infographics for the 2014 Financial Stewardship Report (found on pages xx and xxi) I was surprised at the numbers reported for overall private donations (which can be seen below). The most shocking part of the reported donations to me was the spike in 2008. It isn't unknown that we had a recession with the housing market crash lasting from late 2007 to early 2009, which just so happens to be the same time the private giving to GVSU peaked. Weird isn't it? My only thought is that those fortunate enough to remain unaffected by the recession used donations like these to try and stimulate the economy, but honestly, I am really not sure.
For this step in my final we were asked to pick an internet meme that we enjoy and discuss why we like it and why memes are an important part of internet culture. I decided to choose the "Crazy Girlfriend Meme" which I often see on Facebook and Twitter. I enjoy this meme because even though we all think the things written are ridiculous and just for a good laugh, majority of us actually know someone who is that crazy, or has dated someone who is. I feel memes are important to internet culture because they offer a sense of sarcasm and humor to a form of writing that can sometimes be hard to interpret. Memes are commonly known for their humor, so adding one to any situation automatically lightens the mood which can be much needed in heated posts.
Below you can view step #6 in my CAP 105 scavenger hunt: an Instagram video! For this step we were asked to either video tape our favorite places in the GVSU library or create a mini tour of it. I decided to film my favorite places and included: the outdoor spaces, the computers (where most of my CAP 105 projects get done), the study rooms (where my sorority sisters and I go to study), the little coves (perfect for studying on my own) and anywhere my sisters are (because sometimes the library is a little too crowded to be picky).
For this portion of my final we were asked to use both Instagram and Twitter to upload photos and check in on campus. First I went to the Louis Armstrong Theatre where my friend Aisel snapped a cute pic. Then I went to the 2020 desk to take my selfie. (I just want to say, it was embarrassingly hard to get both me and the sign in my selfie).
As for checking in, checking in at locations can be both good and bad. While it can help you share your location with friends in the area it alerts strangers of your location as well. It is important to remember that public profiles will be sharing your location with everyone on that site. If you really like to check in places, I recommend waiting until you leave and posting it as a look where I was rather than a look where I am moment. I generally do not check places because I simply feel safer without it, no one needs to know where I am all the time anyway. For this step on my final I was asked to take photos with 4 GVSU campus icons and then use photoshop to edit my images. My results are below. After: The Arc 1 & 2 Combined Photo This photograph features the GV icon "Transformational Link" by Artist Gary Kulak. This piece is located next to Ausable hall just before the Little Mak Bridge. This piece of art is spoused to represent our years at grand valley. We start with pieces and end complete. It is important to the culture of Grand Valley because of the rumor surrounding it. Rumor has it that if you walk through the statue the wrong direction (from complete to pieces) you won't graduate. Scary!
For this step in my final, I was asked to take a photo with my favorite outdoor art piece on campus and then to add/remove one element as well as add a filter. For my art piece I chose "Heaven and Earth" by James Clover. I chose to use this sculpture because I love the way it rises. At the bottom of the sculpture there are numerous pieces that try to reach the top, but at the end only one star does. It reminds me that while we are all born into the same world only some of us will achieve greatness in life. This piece is a huge motivator to me and serves as a reminder to be the best I can be every time I pass it. As seen above I decided to remove the girl in the pink (on the right) as well as add a brush stroke filter. Alcedo, A.J. (Photographer). (2015, April 14). Campus Art [photograph]. The first project given for my CAP 105 final was to create a personal name logo using the software Illustrator. In designing my logo I made it a priority to use my full initials (ALM) so that I may continue to brand myself with a more distinct name. I also felt it was necessary to include my full name rather than just my initials so no one else with the same initials is able to use my logo. This project was slightly difficult for me since I had never used Illustrator, but I really like the way it turned out!
