I found this video on my Facebook page earlier today and was almost shocked at the ease that came with this combination! Below you will find a video in which a man named Gregory Todd takes six extremely popular country songs and mashes them all together, including a section in which all songs play at once (and let me tell you now, its hard to hear the difference)!
I first accessed this video through a Facebook link directing me to an article* on buzzfeed.com which described this amazing mashup. After watching this video I was immediately shocked that an artist can follow a simple formula (resulting in extreme similarities) and know they have a hit song without the listener ever catching on, but the more I thought about it the more I realized as advertisers we use this same concept. Why stray from what works? If your brand always uses the same slogan, same actors, or same colors why would you change it. For example it is proven that the color red makes people hungry so why would you advertise for a restaurant without using the color red? This is the same concept behind the lyrics, guitar solos, and cord progressions heard within these six songs. After hearing this I am definitely going to take a step back and appreciate those artists (both musical and advertising) who are able to create a popular song or brand using unconventional ideas rather than the proven methods.
