Today marked the first day of class for my second semester here at Grand Valley. As nerve wracking as it was walking into a classroom full of new students and a new professor I am genuinely excited for my classes this semester. I am taking a six credit honors sequence called Social Product Innovation as well as three three credit courses including Advertising Copywriting, Foundations of Communication Research and Technology in Advertising and Public Relations. Technology in Advertising and Public Relations (or CAP 105) is the reason I have to write this blog, but honestly I am super excited for it. In this class we are going to learn how to professionally use social media (such as blogging, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and other technology outlets to promote ourselves. This blog is one of our main assignments for class and on it you will see numerous assignment postings as well as reflections on class discussions and activities. In addition to my blog giving me time to reflect on class I truely believe keeping it and my other professional social media sites is going to be a key part of me finding a job or internship in my field of study. In addition to social media my Professor is requiring us to attend events at which we can network and build connections that may help us earn jobs later on. This past October I traveled down to Florida to attend the National Collegiate Entrepreneurship Organization annual conference at which I learned all about the benefits of good networking so I am ready to finally try it!
